about
It’s been two years since I first wrote down “Harmony” in the summer of 2020, though this feels like a very wintery, chill song. When the pandemic hit, I was constantly on the road and longing for inner peace. The song is a search for unison, simplicity, and nature; in other words, it’s about making peace with myself when the outside world is full of chaos. I want to escape into a forest, put my hands in the mountain spring, and bathe in the sun.
This is a collaboration with one of my friends Jiayi Guo. We co-wrote and produced this song together in my little bedroom studio in Shanghai. It feels good to put it out, after 2 years, finally.
lyrics
Turn right, the alley
the frost, in a night, bleaching everything
Maple leaves falling, free,
in the well, ten feet deep
Turn left, the forest
Counting the rings on the trees
My hands in the mountain spring
Drenched to my skin
In the midst of haze, I let down my armors
Stopped the fight, in-between the other
Sunburst to darkness
We’re just one of the “nature”
I’m not setting off
Till I heard the harmony
My vinyl spinning
in a stereo room
which I let the music bury me
Giving out my best I’ve no regret
The nights flickering,
Still slipped right out of my hands
In the midst of haze, I let down my armors
Stopped the fight, in-between the other
Sunburst to darkness
We’re just one of the “nature”
I’m not setting off
Till I heard the harmony
Till I heard the harmony
Till I heard the harmony
Till I heard the harmony
Till the harmony kicks in
Inside me and my rhythms
I’m done, done winding in the maze
Back to the origin
Till the harmony kicks in
Inside me, and my rhythms
I’m done, done winding in the maze
Back to the origin
The most beautiful, meditative album with spoken word poetry and ambient-folk instrumentation I heard in 2021. An album on repeat and still continue to inspire my poetry and music writing. Haotian
