silklore Hi Haotian, I am so lucky to have witnessed the production of this lovely album along the way. Your music strikes me as intimate and unpretentious, like seeds tucked in baked earth. The eight travel logs are as tranquil as they are immediate, as ordinary as they are sacred. Sounds are not born in solitude, but rather in conversation with air, roads, deserted lands, and cuisines of your hometown - your work is a gratitude to the inanimate and a reminder that beauty can be coaxed out of dailiness Favorite track: Clouds.

We Might 04:12
we might we might we might… we might we might we might we might just not be the same we tried to get away We can’t replay that dream together

Clouds 04:40
Na Se Na Se Ye… -Translation- Ocean of oilseed mirrors the clouds Reflections surface the mountain stream Smell of rain, sunlight and Grandma Penetrate my window sill Cooking Here I am, standing on highland Looking out from fringe city Airplane above Motionless, I stand underneath the clouds

她说 看 远方的云彩 摊开诗 默读着 观察着 叹息着 我的手 化作风 握成沙 爱不爱 这沧山 与“海” 我的疤 抚作泥 泪成雨 任涟漪 编织 蓑衣 穹顶之下 泉眼 流出了云彩 -Translation- She said Look at the cloud Opening up its poetry, reading Observing, sighing My hands are wind, quicksands dark green mountains, oceans adrift My scars painted dirt Their ripples knit my wooden cape Under the doom Clouds flow from the mouth of a spring

Cabin 04:25
In and out of the woods Red dirt trails, the stream A bridge, Lying in the mountain’s hands In front of me Am I forgetting? I tried to wear the lake on my back Flip my wings Run, run Down a swirling road into a tree hollow Back in my cabin Rolling, rolling Sounds beneath my feet Growing, growing Lost breath in the wind Rain pours up Down Crushes banana leaves a thunder Butterflies away from their valley home Drifters Back in my cabin Rolling, rolling Sounds beneath my feet Locked.

Suitcase 04:36
There’s nothing to be done today what’s said can’t be unsaid We’re all just passersby inside containers where we unfold our wooden hearts My backpack is where I drop my emos I throw ’em away when it’s full looking out my windowpane flowers bloom then wither buried in monotones and you know I don’t believe, we’re all worse off when we limp from the train fresh rain on pavement Sunset crosses your watercolor eyes On my way home Oh It’s time to pack but just a matter of time, a fact Now it’s time to leave with peace but just a matter of time, a fact …

about

“In 2014, I was on a road trip to a border town in my hometown Yunnan, China, where I saw a bridge naturally formed in the hands of two mountains. The writing of this album started last year when I unlocked that part of my memory and my cultural identity from the Hani ethnic group. I never thought I would finish such a folk-centric album in a cosmopolitan city like New York City 8 years later.” —Haotian

Born in Guangzhou, and raised in Yunnan and Shanghai, Haotian has been on the road, moving between cities and countries. An acoustic guitar, a microphone, a field recorder, and diary entries—they make up his belongings and accompany his journey around the world. Music witnesses the transition of his identity—from Hani ethnic minority to global citizen.

Haotian’s debut album, "The Bridge in The Mountain's Hands (A Travelog)," takes listeners on a musical journey and weaves a tapestry of experience through Chinese folk music, ambient, and spoken-word poetry. The album begins and concludes with vivid pictures: "Sunrise Sunset (Intro)" and “Sunset Sunrise (Outro)”. “We Might” vividly paints a global village with samples of voices, saxophone, and indie rock elements. Tracks of “Clouds” and “Border Town Fair” invite listeners to observe a border town fair faraway, while “Terrace Fields” and "Cabin" show how he naturally blends Chinese folk melodies with ambient textures. "Suitcase" serves as a melodic companion for introspective moments on the ride home.
